The ENT examination

In my surgery  you can get a more thorough and focused examination of your ears, nose, and throat.

Interview

Because most people visit specialists at a doctor’s recommendation for a very specific complaint, I will generally start by finding out what brought you into my office. I will also take note of your medical history and medications. The examination points will depend on which and how many of my specialty areas your complaint affects.

Throat Examination

I will start by examining your throat externally and with a tongue depressor and light, just like your regular doctor, but then I may also take the examination further. Using a flexible nasolaryngoscopy inserted through the nostrils, I can get an image of your voice box and back of the throat and nose quickly and with only slight discomfort.

Nasal Examination

Usually a nasal examination involves a good light and a small speculum, butI  may insert a small camera in the nostrils to investigate nasal complaints or follow-up after a surgical procedure.

Ear Examination

A lighted otoscope is used by both general practitioners and ENTs to see the eardrums and ear canals, but an ENT doctor may also use suction to remove wax or other buildup if it obscures the view of the inner ear or is causing the complaint.

Hearing tests can also happen in order to determine whether ear complaints are affecting the patient’s ability to hear.

Your vestibular system can also be examined if you suffer from vertigo or dizziness
